Memoir of Another Remarkable Saturday

Memoir of Another Remarkable Saturday

The Pesta spirit seems to have resolved over the past few weeks as Boys begin to settle back into regular meeting routine. Nevertheless, the fun and fellowship with BB comrades never ceased to be the core of Saturday parades. Let’s hear it from PTE Shane Teh and PTE Ho Shi Ern, both whom have found last week’s meeting an interesting one:

The weekend comes again and it was the time for the grand parade of the Boys’ Brigade on Saturday. The clock strikes half-past-twelve and everyone prepared for band. Unfortunately, the music instructor was absent last week. In view of that, CPL Lee Jia Wen took charge. Even though everyone had their weaknesses and strength, yet under the guidance of our corporal, slowly we learned and we tried our best to master the certain skills with our instruments. This helped in building the foundation in music even further.

The program then proceeded with parade. The parade call was sounded and we began our required routine. Parade was lead by CPL Johnny Tham and we believed he had done a great job. Squad leaders and the NCOs then began taking attendances and inspections of members. It was done very quickly and we were able to proceed well. Our officer of the day, WO Edward Tai led us with a word of prayer. We prayed for strength and concentration throughout the day and that no one would fall sick.

The following session was worship and everyone moved on to one of the MBSSKL (school) classroom. The praise and worship session was led by LCPL Leong Rong Fei and accompanied by PTE Shane Teh. LCPL Leong invited our beloved officers to teach and remind our members of some actions in a song. It was an enjoyable praise and worship session.

Bible Study with Mr. Yong

After that, Members were split into groups for Bible study. The Form 1s,2s,3s and Form 4s,5s. In the Form 1s, 2s and 3s group, Bible study was taught by Mr. Yong Chang Hong. He talked about the story of the Noah’s Ark. God was disappointed and he regretted he ever created mankind. Noah was the only one who found favour in God’s eyes and God told Noah His plan to wipe out mankind with a great flood. And lastly, he told us to remember to have faith in God.

CAPT Yee taught the upper form class about Matthew 6:24. He taught us not to be distracted my electronic gadgets that often grab our attention due to endless amount of entertainment offered. We must not serve two masters, and to choose between God and entertainment. We shouldn’t have neglected God for our own selfish purposes.

We then proceeded to our respective badge classes. For us, we were in the communications class lead by WO Jason Tham. The class was about public speaking. He helped us to differentiate the many different types of public speaking. He also made us do a spontaneous public speaking, which we find it very interesting.

At 5:10 p.m., everyone changed for games and those who were taking the Athletics badge follow WO Edward Tai while the others played basketball and volleyball. For those of us who were taking the Athletics badge, we started with warm up by doing stretching and we ran for four rounds. It was tiring but essential to prevent injuries. We did a testing on 100 metres race and each and every one of our time was recorded. But due to a little minor mistake, some of us had run again and some of us ran for fun, too. It was tiring but fun and rewarding.

Finally, the time has come for us to be dismissed. Everyone fall in under the command of CPL Johnny Tham. Announcements were made by several NCOs and Officer. We then proceeded to the final speech or announcement of the day made by our Captain, CAPT Yee Mun Theam. He encouraged us to join a fund raising bowling event and also encourages the members to bring their families and friends. Captain closed the day with a word of prayer and we ended with the BB Vesper and a salute. Members had a fun and tiring day. Finally, everyone packed up and parted their own ways.

How was your Saturday like? If you would like to experience these fun and exciting activities with the rest of us, it’s never too late to join the great movement of Boys’ Brigade!

  1. Read Joshua 24:1-28 how the Israelite choose God as their master. Read how they throw away the foreign gods.
