With mid-year school holidays comes a great line-up of special events and Saturday activities where Boys get to learn new skills and meet new friends during the break. However, there always comes a time when a Boy misses his regular Saturday programme. With a touch of nostalgia Private Micaiah Sinnadurai writes about a typical Saturday that has been core to 1st KL since its inception in 1954.

It was finally a regular 1st KL Boys’ Brigade Company meeting after all the events that we had since June. Many were not in a good mood as the two-week holidays have come to an end and exams are just around the corner. Nevertheless, coming to BB meeting seems to make members forget about their worries.

At 12:30pm, we had our regular band practice. After many band performances, all members refreshed themselves on basic skills for band, except for two members who learned to play new instruments after transferring to different sections of the band.

At 3:00pm, shortly after parade, we had a short worship session before moving on to the next session, which was Bible study. During Bible study, we were divided into three groups according to our age. The session was then followed by badgework classes. There are currently two badges offered, Safety and Citizenship. For Safety Award, the members had their first assignment, which was to identify dangers in the church building.

At 5:00pm, we had our games session. This week, we played Captain Ball. We played two matches this time because there were four teams.

An hour later, we were dismissed.

So, here’s a question to all BB members: Do you prefer regular BB meetings or special events? Why so?
