Geek Day 2012 @ 1^st Kuala Lumpur Boys’ Brigade

17th November, 2012

12.30pm

Band practice started as usual. Our instructor was busy that day and he could not make it for our practice. One of his friends replaced his lesson. We learnt a lot from this temporary instructor. Band practice ended by 2.20 and followed by parade. After that we had a worship session lead by LCPL Au Kar Fei. We even have an icebreaker session by LCPL Leong Rong Fei before we proceed to our next program.

3.00pm

Geek Day started with The Windows 8 presentation by LT Derek Chan. The Windows 8 is the new operating system by Microsoft. LT Derek Chan did a presentation to all of us about the new functions available in Windows 8. Windows 8 has a different look and feel compared to the previous operating systems by Microsoft. Windows 8 has no Start Button on left corner like previous Windows. Windows 8 has a home page which includes desktop like previous Windows, applications, socials and more, and everything can be put in many categories. This fruitful presentation by LT Derek Chan has definitely benefited us.

4.00pm

Time for games!!! Whole company splitted into 5 groups and started to enjoy the games that has been planned by the committees.

1^st station : W-I-I! The Wii Station!

Every group can choose to play tennis, bowling or basketball. Every group must try their best to win the station game master, Henry in 15 minutes time.

2^nd station : ICT Quiz

Every group was given a set of questions to answer and every group must answer all the questions in 15 minutes. Time is counted by the station game master, PTE Wong Jin Hao. The more questions we answered correctly, the more points we got.

3^rd station : The Legend – Play Station 3

We had to play the Street Fighter X Tekken fighting game here. Every group must try their best to win the station game master, LT Derek Chan to earn points. Therefore, everyone had a chance to play the Play Station 3.

4^th station : Let your fingers start dancing! – The Typing Challenge!

Challenge Accepted! Every group is given a keypad phone, a laptop, an iPhone, an iPad, and a desktop keyboard to type a paragraph of words which was written on the whiteboard by the station game master, CPL Johnny Tham. Every group can earn points by typing all the sentences in the shortest time. We had difficulties in the keypad phone mainly because we’re all used to touch screen phone and this is definitely a challenge to us.

5^th station : Drawing? Guessing? The Draw Something

Draw Something is a very famous entertaining game in our mobile phones. LCPL Au Kar Fei prepared 8 drawings and every group must guess the word in order to earn points. We get to answer all of his drawings in a very short period of time. He said this is because his drawing was too good, but we said because we’re smart!

5.30pm

Everyone then adjourn to MPH for Christmas Caroling practice. Caroling practice was lead by Ms Doreen. We had a lot of fun singing with our other fellow brothers and sisters from the church to prepare for Christmas.

6.00pm

Time to head home! Everyone then departed to the field for dismissal. The results for Geek Day was announced. The champion is Group 3, 2nd place goes to Group 1 and the 3rd place goes to  Group 2. Although my group did not win anything this time but we definitely had a lot fun. We will try harder next year!

Geek Day is an event that let every member to know more about the new technologies and have fun at the same time.
