Despite the holiday season, 17 of our boys still make every Saturday’s meeting their priority, including today. Thirteen newly-promoted-privates worked together with 4 NCOs and the meeting went on without any traverse.
There were 8 of our boys who represented the company in attending the State-level NCO Training School, both Basic and Advanced level, which took place in Wesley Methodist School, Sentul. Both BNTS and ANTS held from 24-26th of August. These boys did not make it to be with us this Saturday but we are very sure they have gained a lot together with other blue-blooded brigadiers over there from the same state, although different companies.
Due to the lack of man-power, some of the programmes were rescheduled to accommodate the small numbers we had this week. Firstly, the meeting was kick-started with Parade. Parade was held in Parish Hall when the clock strikes sharp at 1230, led by CPL Lee Jia Wen. Thorough inspection was carried out to all members, even though they are only new privates.
Band followed Parade without any delays, as efficiency is what 1st KL wants to achieve. Instructor Mr. Wan came on time and Band was held in Multipurpose Hall. Mr. Wan focused more on basics this week because almost 80% of the attendees were form 1s. He taught the band the importance of buzzing and it’s tips and tricks. “Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.”–Jim Rohn. Strong fundamental is what keep a building from collapsing, a band shares the same theory.
After Band was Bible study, worship session was skipped because PTE Shane Teh, whom is the worship leader, was not feeling well and was absent for meeting. The juniors went under Mr. Yong for bible classes whereas the elder NCOs were lead by Madam Jennifer Kwok and Captain Yee. The bible verses for the elder section was taken from James 1:2-4, it reminds us to be joyful as we go through trials because it teaches us patience. As for the other class, they learned that wherever you go, be calm, for God is with you. Both classes were real fruitful and messages of God have been delivered successfully through the teachers.

The next program was a little special – all the privates were given a lesson on how to polish their uniform parts, PROPERLY. This session was headed by CPL Wong Jin Zhao and assisted by the other 3 NCOs. This session was suggested because it has come to our attention that boys nowadays are not dressing up themselves the way they should, they have not been respecting their uniform enough. We certainly hope this lesson will help all the boys to understand the values that the Boys’ Brigade wants to instill in them. Besides teaching and demonstration, this session has also bonded brotherhood among members as everyone was assisting one another in putting up their smartest uniform ever for another round of inspection later on.
Then it was Games time! A volleyball was thrown into the court and the Captain Ball match began! The boys enjoyed themselves more than words could describe, the field was filled with laughter. A 45-minute of strenuous game made everyone sweat, yet, it felt like they have not got enough. Dismissal followed up after that together with the junior section. And guess what, 2 boxes of Pizzas were given to the senior boys as an appreciation for their commitment! A big thank you to Mr. Cheong for this wonderful reward, which very much motivates and also act as an encouragement for the boys. Dismissal ended in 15minutes and everyone started to pack and leave. The ground was once again silenced, but it will definitely be filled with music, laughter, foot-stamping sound, and commands again when the next Saturday comes, as the story of the Brigade doesn’t stop here.
Come the week after Independent Day, be ready and get excited, let’s explore the fun together!
